Novella Meek Obituary (1918

Novella Meek, 98, of Shelbyville, passed away January 27, 2017, at her residence. She was born on February 6, 1918 to Everett "Mac" and Nettie (Theobald) Baker in Shelby County. She married Clyde "Herb" Meek on March 24, 1940 and he passed away in 1983. Survivors include two sisters, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, and two sisters. Novella was a lifetime resident of Shelby County and was a home maker. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1935 and had taken college courses with Liberty University and Jimmy Swaggart College. She was a member of Ray's Crossing Christian Union Church, and attended Trinity United Methodist Church. Novella was a lifetime ember of Sigma Beta Sorority where she had been past national president. She had written poetry and plays, and had her poetry published in several publications and magazines. Some of her poetry was read on radio by Arthur Godfrey and several other prominent broadcasters. Novella loved to write and sketch. She enjoyed Bible study, horses, dogs, birds, the outdoors, opera, and flying. Graveside services were held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, February 3, 2017, at Bennett Cemetery with Jerri Cadwalder officiating. Visitation was held on Friday February 3, 2017 from 10-12:00 Noon at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home. Memorial can be made to Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter c/o the funeral home.
