Deryl L. Denney Obituary (1934 - 2023)

Deryl L. Denney, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Roudebush VA Medical Center. Born on December 16, 1934 in Columbus, Indiana, he was the son of Lewis Denney and Helen Ruth (Veale) Denney. He married Delana "Dee" (Stroup) McCabe on April 29, 1995 and she survives. Other survivors include children- Christopher Denney of Columbus, Cynthia Baughman (Brad) of Brown County, Beth Noblitt of Columbus; stepsons- Keith Keppel (Elissa) and Gary Keppel both of Shelbyville; sister- Helen Heibich; 4 grandchildren- Olivia Baughman, Grace Baughman, John Keppel (Wendy), Emily Childers; 4 great-grandchildren- Nicholas Childers, Jack Childers, Felix Keppel, Wren Keppel and 3 step-grandchildren- Jordan, Dylan, and Caitlyn Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 brothers- Norman, Julian & Charles Denney. Mr. Denney had lived in this area for several years after previously moving from Columbus, Indiana. Deryl was a sales rep for Stress Analysis of Ohio for 15 years, had been owner & operator for a Plumbing & Supply store in Columbus for several years. He graduated from Columbus North High School, and also graduated from Purdue University, and received a Master's degree from Indiana University. While at Purdue he was a fraternity brother and good friend to Neil Armstrong. He was a 25 year member of First Baptist Church, 22 of those years he served as church treasurer. He was a long standing Kiwanis member where he held several offices, including Lt. Governor, a Riley Hospital volunteer for 10 years, where he was awarded the Red Shoe Merit Award, a driver for the Shelby County Cancer Society and also a member of Gideon's International. Deryl served in the US Air Force. Deryl & Dee traveled extensively, including traveling to most of the United States, and 2 trips to Europe and Canada. Deryl enjoyed golfing and loved Purdue, and watching Purdue basketball. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Rev. Bruce Banister officiating. Friends may call on Saturday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion.
