Clarence E. "Sonny" Chappelow Obituary (1928

Clarence Elmer "Sonny" Chappelow, 87, of Indianapolis, former lifetime resident of Noble Township, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. He was born Aug. 4, 1928, to Clarence T. Chappelow and Eva (Beagle) Chappelow in Shelby County. He married Christine (Smothers) Chappelow on Dec. 26, 1951, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons: Jeff Chappelow and wife, Dina, of St. Paul; and Chad Chappelow of Shelbyville; two daughters: Pamela Payne of Shelbyville; and Connie Meece and husband, Larry, of St. Paul; brother, Sandford Chappelow and wife, Kathy, of Geneva; sister, Joan Chappelow Elder of Shelbyville; 13 grandchildren, Zandria Hopkins, Carina Gleissner, Christian Chappelow, Alicia Chappelow, Glydel Bless Guerrero, Jeffina Chappelow, Zachary Meece, Leeya Metz, Joshua Chappelow, Caleb Chappelow, Colin Chappelow, Nicole Nelson and Ashley Chappelow; and 11 great-grandchildren, Lilly Hopkins, Ephram Hopkins, Charlie Meece, Ellie Metz, Emmy Metz, William Metz, Blake Chappelow, Kerriona Chappelow, Terence Chappelow, Gabriella Chappelow and Daniel Garrett Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John P. Chappelow, Paul Kenneth Chappelow and Jack Chappelow; and sisters, Carol Remmel and Thelma Jean Wisker. He graduated from Waldron High School in 1946. Mr. Chappelow served with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. Mr. Chappelow worked as a supervisor at International Harvester. He was a member of Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church. Clarence loved playing his guitar and fishing. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at Glenn E. George Funeral Home, 106 E. Franklin St., St. Paul, IN 47272. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Little officiating. Burial will be at Van Pelt Cemetery in Shelby County. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project in care of the funeral home.
